Anatomy of a Transparent Marvel
True to its name, the Glass Octopus is almost entirely transparent. Unlike most cephalopods that rely on complex camouflage, this species lets its environment pass right through it. Observers can clearly make out its internal anatomy, including its optic nerve, eyes, digestive tract, and tiny yellow chromatophores—pigment-containing cells that provide subtle coloration.
